Best Time to Visit
June to September is the main dry season, best for gorilla trekking. December to February is another dry period. Rainy seasons (March-May, October-November) make trails muddy but offer lower prices.
Cultural Notes
Rwanda has made remarkable progress since the 1994 genocide. Memorials are powerful and respectful visits are encouraged. "Umuganda" (community service) is the last Saturday of each month. Rwandans value cleanliness and order.
Insider Tips
Gorilla permits cost $1,500 and must be booked months ahead. Rwanda is expensive by African standards. Plastic bags are banned - pack accordingly. The country is small and well-connected.
